Moorland Caterpillars

On walking the moors up near Meltham on Wednesday we were surprised to come across many small, furry caterpillars in the grasses up there. Checking our moth book on my return they looked like they were ‘Fox moth’ larvae (our moth recorders may correct me). As well as the risk of twisting an ankle on the tussocks, we had another reason to be careful where we put our feet!
