Christmas Floods

More heavy rain led to the Wharfe overflowing for the second time this year. Ilkley was cut off from both ends for a spell yesterday. Coutances Way was still closed last night. Today, however, the sun was out and some of the local wildlife were making the most of their new riverside habitat, showing how quickly nature adapts.

These scenes were a contrast to some of those in the Calder valley where the floodwaters had caused a large amount of damage. Thousands of homes were also at risk today in York and the army had to rescue hundreds of families by boat. We pass on well wishes to those who were affected.
